Legislate (Week 2)
A Call to Christian Civic Engagement: PRAY, PARTICIPATE, POSITION
The Divine Mandate for Legislative Influence
The Bible, a divine blueprint for life, empowers the Body of Christ to actively engage in the political sphere. It's not just a suggestion; it's a mandate to legislate God's love and justice across the globe.
What Does It Mean to Legislate?
To legislate is to make, establish, mandate, or regulate laws. In essence, it's about shaping the laws of a society. The opposite of legislating is lawlessness, anarchy, disorder, and chaos.
Why Is This Important?
Politics, at its core, is about representing people. And God's primary concern is people—souls. By engaging in politics, we can influence policies that impact the lives of countless individuals.
The Church's Threefold Role
Pray: Consistent prayer is the foundation of effective political engagement. It's through prayer that we seek God's wisdom and guidance, and intercede for our leaders and nation.
Participate:
Disciple and Educate: Equip the Church with biblical principles to understand the political landscape.
Serve the Community: Offer ministries and resources that address societal needs.
Vote: Exercise your right to vote in every election.
Stay Informed: Keep abreast of local, state, national, and global issues.
Support and Challenge Leaders: Hold leaders accountable while offering encouragement and support.
Advocate for Just Laws: Support or oppose legislation based on biblical principles.
Run for Office: Consider running for office or encourage others to do so.
Position: The Church is not called to simply hope for political change; it's called to bring about that change. By actively engaging in the political process, we can influence policies that reflect God's values.
Biblical Examples of Political Engagement
Throughout Scripture, we see numerous examples of godly individuals who were active in the political realm:
Daniel: A model of integrity, Daniel refused to compromise his faith, even when it meant facing potential death.
Esther: Positioned by God for a specific purpose, Esther risked her life to save her people.
Joseph: A man who rose to a position of great power and influence, using his authority to provide for his family and nation.
Nehemiah: A leader who combined prayer and action to rebuild the walls of Jerusalem.
Paul: A skilled communicator who effectively engaged with both Jewish and Gentile leaders.
The Church's Divine Mandate
As followers of Christ, we are called to be salt and light in the world. This includes actively engaging in the political process to promote justice, righteousness, and compassion. By praying, participating, and positioning ourselves, we can make a significant impact on the world around us.
Let's rise to the challenge and fulfill our divine mandate to legislate God's love and justice to all creation.
